Unfold guest host #5: Amy Kay! I *know* you’ve seen Amy’s poems circulating social media, and now you get to write with her live! Amy’s workshop will be on Wednesday, April 16 from 7-9 pm central. That makes her the first announced workshop of WEIRD WEEK! Can’t wait to share more soon, but for now, let’s spend some quality time with Amy Kay!
Amy Kay (she/her) is a poet, psychologist, and weirdo living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She writes poems about girlhood, womanhood, and yearning. Other interests include: gardening, french fries, musical theater, tea, eccentric bathroom decor, dogs, hiking, lists, and thrifting. You can find her at AmyKayPoetry.com or on Instagram @AmyKayPoetry
I met Amy while TAing for Sierra DeMulder’s workshop, Turn the Crystal. I had followed Amy on Instagram and seen tons of her poems but had never been in the same space as her. I immediately loved her and had a blast getting to edit a couple of her poems. Amy’s writing has made my jaw drop on more than one occasion. She’s honest in such a realistic way it sometimes feels like you can step right into her poems. That’s a rare quality. You should follow along. Other cool things: Amy has hosted lots of prompt-a-day communities to celebrate National Poetry Writing Month (if you’re a poet on the internet, I guarantee you’ve seen her prompts). She also leads her own workshops and retreats, and you can find prints of her poems and some very silly stickers in her shop.
Amy’s workshop is called Last Meals! Let’s get messy, gluttonous, a little repulsive. In this workshop, we’ll explore the intersection of food and unaesthetic yearning in poetry. We’ll study the gristle and grit, the stuff that gets stuck between your teeth and stays with you.
Unfold registration closes in less than two weeks, so grab your membership now! It’ll give you access to Amy’s workshop, other guest host workshops, and all other workshops we host throughout April—one each day.
Since Amy loves fries so much she put them in her bio (iconic), let’s put the potato power of the Unfold community to work. Leave a comment welcoming Amy and tell her your favorite form of potato!
